POKOTABI / Kemuri
けむり
Explore the dinner offerings at Kemuri, an Asakusa yakiniku restaurant known for thick-cut tongue, Wagyu kalbi, crisp signature asazuke kimchi, and an extensive variety of offal cuts.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Searing thick cuts of meat over the grill alongside crisp, refreshing kimchi sets an immediate spark to a yakiniku dinner. Located in Asakusa 2-chome, Kemuri offers a lineup crafted for dedicated meat lovers, headlined by hearty thick-cut tongue and thick-cut skirt steak (harami) alongside standard Wagyu kalbi and skirt cuts that deliver rich savor and satisfying chew. Pairing each freshly browned, fragrant bite straight off the fire with a mouthful of plain white rice is one of the classic luxuries of the table.
Between savory grilled cuts, the restaurant's signature lightly pickled kimchi (asazuke kimchi) is a focal point among the side dishes. Distinct from long-fermented styles, it preserves the crunchy texture of fresh vegetables coated in a balanced sweet and spicy seasoning, making it just as effective as an accompaniment for drinks as it is a palate cleanser. Cold and raw-style appetizers such as heart yukhoe (hatsu yukhoe), sliced omasum (senmai sashi), and kobukuro sashi give diners plenty of choices to open the first round of drinks.
The expansive variety of horumon (variety meats and offal) provides another major reason to linger. Cuts including superior rumen (kamimino), sweetbread (shibire), small intestine (shoucho), large intestine (tetchan), heart artery (korikori), and tracheal cartilage (urute) fill out the roster, and ordering an assortment allows diners to compare contrasting textures across the board. Drinks like high-carbonation Kaku highballs, draft beer, and shochu sours sit alongside wine and makgeolli, giving visitors plenty to sip on while tending the tabletop grill.
For the conclusion of the meal, comforting carbohydrate options include springy cold noodles (reimen), lightly spicy karamen, and warming yukgaejang gukbap. Paired with considerate hospitality inside a calm dining room, Kemuri provides a reliable retreat for a relaxed evening around the grill.
